Driverless cars – a chance to be independent?
2 minutes read time
While businesses such as Google explore the concept of driverless cars what is more important to people is to have that choice. To be able to choose to drive yourself or to be driven.
But what about you. What about now? Those lucky enough to be able to use a standard car often take that level of independence for granted. They can also choose where they sit, in the back and gaze out of the window or sit in the front with the driver.
This choice and the opportunity to be independent, and perhaps drive, or ride in the front is a more realistic aim for many wheelchair users.
Here at GM we strive to develop solutions for wheelchair users that match the expectations and aspirations of the able bodied. Our range includes compact and family size solutions. They all feature interchangeable seats which gives the wheelchair user the choice of being the driver or passenger.
Our engineers talk about wheelchair solutions. Our company ethos is about solutions for people.
Our range of wheelchair driver and front passenger cars are based on high specification people carriers from Ford and Volkswagen. All our designs allow your wheelchair to be positioned in the driving space or front passenger space. Some models are designed to allow you to enter the vehicle independently and then transfer from your wheelchair (or maybe scooter) into a special powered driving seat.
What is most important is we aim to have a solution to meet your needs. That means we partner with specialist adaptation companies who finalise the bespoke solution for you. These companies are usually in your area have the experience necessary to understand the challenges and work with us for you.
You choose the car and we take care of the rest on your behalf.
This isn’t an off the peg offering but a quality tailored service. We will be there to support you through the entire time you run the car. We can arrange servicing, specialist adaptation maintenance and visit you at home and check your car, not just now but every year. Although it’s not quite driverless it is very much good old fashioned personal service with modern solutions.
